Quick Reads
78 books are short, with only 10 medium and 5 long. Most stories can be finished in under an hour, making them ideal for a lunch break or a short commute.
Choose a book, record where you are, and set a daily goal. Your progress is stored in localStorage in this browser; it is not uploaded to a user account.
If the EPUB has no fixed print pagination, the tool starts with an estimated page count and lets you replace it with the page total shown by your own reader.

The reading time tool estimates how long it will take to finish a book based on its word count and average reading speed. The archive lists both median word count (about 9,934 words) and median reading time (about 43 minutes) for the whole catalog.
These estimates are based on a typical reading pace. Your own speed may vary, but the numbers give a reasonable sense of the time required. Use them to plan your reading sessions, whether you have a few minutes or several hours.

If you prefer something more substantial, look for the medium or long books, such as 'Key Out of Time' at 267 minutes or 'The atom curtain' at 259 minutes. These offer a deeper immersion.
Each book's word count is listed, so you can compare directly. For instance, 'The Salesman' has 4,111 words (about 18 minutes), while 'Destiny times three' has 39,157 words (171 minutes).
Reading Tracker records progress in pages, not minutes or sections. You enter the current page, the total pages, and a daily page goal. The tracker then estimates how many days remain and how much time is left, based on the estimated reading minutes for the book. It is a simple system for keeping a long read on schedule.
The catalog does not always include a fixed page count, so the tracker starts with an estimate: word count divided by 250 words per page, rounded up. If your own edition shows a different total, you can replace the estimate. The default daily goal is 20 pages, but you can adjust it to match your reading speed.
For a book like "Black Silence — Background and Themes" (id 269), the word count is 23,655. Dividing by 250 gives about 95 pages. The tracker will show that as the total page count unless you change it. If you read 20 pages a day, the estimated finish is about 5 days. If you prefer a slower pace of 10 pages a day, it becomes 10 days. The tool adapts to your goal.
The estimated remaining time is proportional: if you have read half the pages, you have roughly half the estimated minutes left. This is an approximation, but it helps you see whether a book will take three days or three weeks.
Page counts vary between editions, fonts, and devices. The tracker allows you to enter the total page count from your own reading app or printed edition. This is useful for a book like "Key Out of Time — Background and Themes" (id 216), which has 61,211 words. The initial estimate is about 245 pages, but your edition might have 300 pages or 200. Entering the accurate number makes the daily goal more meaningful.
The tracker stores your progress history in your browser's localStorage. No account is required, and your data stays on your device. This means you can close the page and return later without losing your place, as long as you use the same browser.
For a substantial novel like "Pioneers of space — Background and Themes" (id 295) at 77,121 words, the initial page estimate is about 309 pages. At 20 pages a day, that is roughly 16 days. If that feels too long, you can raise the daily goal to 30 pages, cutting the time to about 11 days. The tracker makes these trade-offs visible.
The tracker does not record sections or minutes as progress. It is purely page-based. If you read a single-section short story, you might finish in one sitting. If you are working through a 15-section novel, the page count gives you a steady metric. The tool is designed for sustainable progress, not for measuring quality.
